Outdoor Kitchens at the Jersey Shore: What to Know Before You Build

Outdoor Kitchens at the Jersey Shore: What to Know Before You Build

There's nothing like cooking and entertaining outdoors through a Jersey Shore summer. But an outdoor kitchen lives in sun, salt air and seasons, so it's built differently than an indoor one.

Weather-ready materials matter

Coastal air is tough on cabinetry and hardware. Purpose-built outdoor cabinetry and durable stone surfaces stand up to the elements far better than anything meant for indoors. This is the single most important decision for longevity.

Design around how you host

Start with the grill and appliances you want, then build in the prep space, storage and seating that make hosting effortless. A bar area or a run of counter for serving changes how the whole space works.

Think about flow

Position the outdoor kitchen so the cook stays part of the party, with an easy path to the indoor kitchen for the things you'll inevitably run back for.

Plan the utilities early

Gas, water, electric and drainage are far easier to place during planning than to add later. Getting these right up front keeps the project smooth — and that's where we start.
